The more I learn and the older I become the more I have started to appreciate the finer things in life. Don't get me wrong at my heart I am still a 100% cheap person and for that, I know that I should get a little better at. But even with my nature being a cheap heifer I know that there are some things in life that are simply worth spending more for. It can be because it makes you feel better, or simply because spending a little more can actually save a lot of money down the road. Like buying a better brand of car for an extra thousand dollars.
If you know from history that you will save 3 thousand in maintenance within the first two years then spending an extra thousand dollars has actually saved you two thousand dollars. The things like this are what make me think that it is worth spending more for sometimes. This is something that I have also come to appreciate in my ostomy gear as well. I am a person that has an stoma and that means I walk around with an ostomy bag each and every day of my life. But what has allowed me to keep my lifestyle virtually the same is the purchasing of really good gear.
It can be simply knowing that my ostomy bag is not going to leak that can allow me to have the confidence to go out and live a good life. The fact that my gear can withstand more than what I can put it through is a huge confidence boost to my life and it keeps me wanting to do more as well. I understand how some people have stopped enjoying their life and are simply afraid to go out and a lot of that is they won't try anything new. They live on gear that was made for the 1980's and designed for a boring lifestyle. This is 2020 and the ostomy gear world is amazing and you can literally live any life you want with it. There are runners and marathon and iron man competitors who all have stomas now. The gear is so incredibly good that it is silly to not want to actually go out and be crazy.
But what helped me to get to that point was knowledge, experience, and trust. I went into full professional researching mode when I found out I was slated to get a stoma. I wanted to make sure I was using the best gear. I called doctors, pharmacists and manufacturers to find what was best. I spent hours on the internet and youtube finding what people were doing and how they were actually doing these amazing physical things. It took time and effort but after the initial learning curve of working with my own stoma, I knew I had so much potential.
So go out and search for the best gear. Follow athletes with stomas and see what they are doing and what gear they use to do the amazing tasks they take on each day. Find out what gear you will need to rock the gym, or to go out on the beach and look sexy. It is all possible in 2020 and I encourage you to jump in.
